275 HEAD — ESTABLISHED COW FAMILIES, PRODUCTIVE MOTHERS & THEIR DAUGHTERS
Stettler Auction Market is honoured to present this major herd reduction from Wayne McNary and Anita Martens of M2 Quarter Circle Ranch. Developed over many years, this herd brings together Shorthorn influence and Angus breeding, with an emphasis on maternal qualities, milk production and practical ranch cattle.
THE OFFERING
• 175 bred cows• 50 bred heifers — daughters of the herd• 40 selected open Black Angus heifer calves — 2026-born breeding prospects
MOTHERS THAT MILK
The cow herd includes blue roan, red and white cows with black noses, described as carrying ¼-blood Angus influence, alongside black cows. These are established cow families, with tags identifying their family lines.
The herd began in 2008 with eight blue heifers. Twenty Black Angus females from LANGCO, Viking, Alberta, were added in 2010. Retaining first-cycle heifers has been central to the herd’s development since 2010.
All cows are described as horse, dog and quad broke, with feed efficiency highlighted in the ranch’s management experience over more than 15 years.
BREEDING DETAILS
• Blue, red and white cows are bred to home-raised Black Angus bulls.• Black cows are bred to Shorthorn and horned Hereford bulls, with Lilybrook Herefords noted in the breeding program.• Bull breeding lines include Brandel, Peak Dot and Hamilton.
CALVING INFORMATION
Bulls were turned out June 28–29. Calving is expected to begin around April 8, with early calves possible April 1.
Historically, approximately 75% of the calves have been born during April.
A MAJOR HERD REDUCTION
A small number of aged females will remain at the ranch. This offering provides an opportunity to select from the established cow herd, its bred daughters and selected 2026 Black Angus heifer calves.
